A joy flight is in reality an "introductory air experience flight" - it gives you a quality introduction to flying high performance gliders - without any obligation to continue. It is a wonderful way to find out about gliding and have some fun at the same time.
Your flight instructor will take you through the basics of flying a glider and if you are really keen, let you fly the glider under his supervision. If you prefer, you can relax and take in the scenery, that's ok too. The flight is yours, we can tailor the experience to your desires.
If you succumb to the joy of flight, as many have, we will help you to achieve flying feats you would not believe possible. We can provide training in gliding and ultra lights from some of the best instructors and coaches in the world and we can do it with a safety record that is second to none.

You can book your air experience flight for any weekend, just contact the club, after 10am, to arrange a date and time.
Flying on weekdays is by special arrangement and is subject to the availability of flight personnel.
You are advised that the ASC gliders are only rated to take passengers who are 110kg or less and that children over ten years of age are more suited to enjoy the experience of flight. The airfield is 45 minutes from the centre of Adelaide, conveniently located next to the Gawler Township. Once at the airfield, please consult the information board at the "General Office" for details of launch points and how to access them. You will also need to fill out and sign an 'Introductory Membership Application' to the Gliding Federation of Australia and abide by the conditions therein. We look forward to making your experience with us an enjoyable one.
We offer two introductory flight experiences - the Air Experience Flight and the Aerobatic Flight
Please remember to bring a hat and sunscreen with you for sun protection and by all means you may bring a camera and take photos as a memento of your flight with us. The club will also present you with a "Flight Certificate" to further celebrate your experience.

Flying in formation behind your launch aircraft you reach 3,000 feet, pull the release, peel off and trim to cruising speed. Experience the wonder of un-powered flight, learning how to control the aircraft, banking left and right. This is flying in its purest form. A qualified flight instructor in one of our modern two-seater fiberglass sailplanes (Grob G103) with dual controls will conduct your flight. The flight time is dependent on prevailing weather conditions and usually lasts about 15 minutes. In this time you will have an opportunity to fly the aircraft under the supervision of your instructor. If weather conditions allow and you wish to stay airborne for longer, please negotiate this with your instructor. The extra time will be charged at club rates and will need to be paid for after landing.
Gift vouchers can be arranged online through Red Balloons or alternatively by contacting the ASC club office. |

Aerobatic flights last about 10 minutes and include such maneuvers as steep turns, inside loops and chandelles. However, calm weather conditions are required to conduct aerobatics and to this end you are encouraged to book your flight for earlier in the morning or later in the afternoon. If prevailing weather conditions are not suitable for aerobatics, you will still be offered the opportunity to enjoy the thrill of soaring and ‘fly’ the aircraft under the supervision of your instructor. If you wish to take this opportunity and weather conditions allow, you may be able to stay airborne for longer than 10 minutes (at no extra cost).
Gift vouchers can be arranged online through Red Balloons or alternatively by contacting the ASC club office. |
